Daniel Zimbler is a multiple SAFTA-winning South African screenwriter and director of comedy and drama, and a graduate of Columbia University's MFA film program. Among his television credits, he was Lead Writer on the acclaimed 12-part historical epic ‘Shaka ILembe’ for Multichoice; he wrote on the award-winning TV drama ‘Spinners’ for Canal+; co-wrote and directed on the hugely popular multi SAFTA-winning Showmax comedy series ‘Tali's Diaries’. Daniel was Head Writer on MNET’s popular telenovela IsiThembiso for two seasons (468 episodes), winning the SAFTA for TV writing in 2019. His SAFTA-nominated feature documentary 'Goldblatt' played internationally, headlining Paris Photo and Photo London, and his short films - and award-winning web series ‘Understudies’ starring comedy legend Richard Kind and David Rasche - have screened in festivals around the world (Palm Springs, Fantastic Fest, Raindance, Short of the Week).
Daniel is currently head writing a comedy-drama series for Netflix. His previous work includes human rights research at the Cape Town think-tank, the Centre for Conflict Resolution. He holds a BA Hons in Archaeology and Anthropology from the University of Oxford, UK.
